Highland Hall School is seeking an experienced teacher to teach a semester course on Economics to 12th graders. The course is to familiarize our 12th graders with the concepts and theories of economics, as well as the practical aspects of day-to-day economics. Students will learn what constitutes macro- and micro-economics, and the types of systems that exist along with the advantages and disadvantages of each. They will understand generally the different economic systems - command, traditional, and market. Lessons will cover the concepts of scarcity, opportunity costs, choice, supply and demand, pricing system, and the idea of equilibrium. Practically, the students will learn what a credit report is, how to research a major purchase, how to write a check, and to keep a balanced check register. They will review various economically-related forms for employment, income taxes, and creating a personal budget. The course ends with a look at different economic philosophies and where the environment fits into the economic life. Highland Hall Waldorf School is a private Waldorf school in Northridge, located about 8 minutes from the CSUN campus. Our 11-acre tree-studded campus is home to 380 students in grades Nursery -12th and parent/child play groups, and a supportive collegial faculty. We lead children through a curriculum which balances thinking, artistic expression, and physical deeds to help them become confident individuals capable of making free choices/independent decisions. Our high school graduates attending recognized colleges throughout the nation and pursue a wide variety of careers. This position is part-time and is scheduled for Mon-Fri. 10:00am-10:40am.
